Spencer wasn't sure when he started having feelings for Jon. Not just band mate feelings. Cause he had those since the day he heard Jon play one of their songs for the first time, even though at the time he was just a temp. But bigger feelings. Feelings that made it feel like he had butterflies in his stomach when Jon looked at him Just That Way, that made him blush and look away when Jon said something complimenting him, that made him want to smile whenever Jon smiled.

It might have been when Brendon got hit the head with that bottle at Reading, and Jon had hurried over, worried. It might have been when Ryan's dad died, and Jon respectively knew that who Ryan needed was Spencer, and lead Brendon away. It might have been when Spencer got a splinter in his hand from playing too vigorously one night, and Jon carefully cradled Spencer's hand in his and worked the piece of wood out. Or it might have been something entire different.

Whenever it was, Spencer had feelings for Jon. Of course, he couldn't very well tell Jon. There was Cassie, after all. Spencer was a nice boy. He wasn't about to get in the way of what seemed like the perfect relationship. There was also the distance. Sure, they spent a lot of time together when they were touring. But when the tour was over, until they started recording the next album, Jon was going back to Chicago, and Spencer was going back to Las Vegas. They weren't exactly within driving distance from each other. That also meant that Jon would be two hours ahead, so late endearing phone calls would be out of the question. Not that Spencer had thought about late endearing phone calls. He just couldn't tell Jon.

So Spencer hid his true feelings and treated Jon as just as a good friend, since that's what Jon had become in the short time he had been with them. He bit his lip and only gave a half smile when Jon smiled at him. He looked away even more to hide the blush when Jon complimented him. He blamed the food for the queasiness whenever Jon looked at him Just That Way. And he never told Jon how he felt.

It was the very last concert of the tour. As Brendon strutted his stuff and attempted to kiss Ryan, and Ryan tolerated Brendon's theatrics, Spencer watched Jon out of the corner of his eye. This would be the last time he would perform with Jon until who knows when. After the concert, when Zach threw a party for the boys, which ended with Brendon pouring a whole bunch of glitter into Ryan's hair (Spencer wasn't completely sure where the glitter had come from) and Ryan chasing Brendon from the bus, Spencer watched Jon joke and laugh with Zach as Brendon suddenly turned around and tackled Ryan hard to the pavement. At the airport, Spencer watched as Jon first hugged Ryan, telling him to watch out for glitter, which earned him a smack on the arm, then Brendon, telling him to stay out of trouble, or else he'd sic Dylan on him.

Finally, Jon turned to Spencer, smiling. Although he tried to hide it, Spencer couldn't help but smile back right before Jon pulled him into a hug. Jon didn't say anything, just hugged Spencer tightly before letting go. He stuck his hands in his pockets, still smiling. "See you around, Spence."

Spencer couldn't help but feel like he was going to throw up. Maybe those butterflies weren't butterflies at all. Maybe they were bats, who decided it was time to gnaw on the inside of his stomach. Yeah, that made sense. He stuck his own hands in the pockets of his hoodie, to hide the slight shaking that had begun. "Yeah. See ya." He turned and started walking away. He couldn't bear to see Jon get on that plane. Not now.

He was so preoccupied with own thoughts that he didn't hear the pounding feet behind him, not until someone grabbed his arm. He spun around to find Jon panting slightly, using Spencer as a support. "Hey," he breathed, and Spencer opened his mouth to say "hey?" back when Jon's mouth was suddenly on his, covering it, with Jon's other hand coming up lightly wrap around the back of Spencer's neck. Spencer froze for about two seconds before closing his eyes and returning the kiss, his own hand coming up hold Jon's head close. A few moments later Jon pulled away, although only far enough so that he could put his forehead against Spencer's. When Spencer opened his eyes, he found Jon's Looking straight at him. "So," Jon said, almost against Spencer's lips, his hand finally letting go of Spencer's arm to cup the other side of his neck. "I'm thinking of catching a later flight. After all, Chicago's a long way from Vegas. And there aren't that many awesome drummers in Chicago." He smiled at Spencer.

Maybe the butterflies were butterflies after all. Spencer smiled back, blushing. But this time he didn't look away.
